Water Production and Treatment

This portion of the BMP Tool Box contains practices that pertain to the operations and management of the water production and distribution facilities and related equipment and processes.  Water production for many water companies and utilities involves the use of groundwater production wells to produce raw water supplies, which are subsequently treated, chlorinated for disinfection, and pumped to distribution.  Other raw water supplies, and alternative water supplies such as direct diversion of surface water sources, reuse and reclamation of wastewater, interconnects, and water leases are also included.

Water treatment includes processes and facilities that treat, soften, and disinfect raw water prior to its distribution as finished water to the utility’s customers.
