Sedum lanceolatum, Lanceleaf Stonecrop

Colorado gardening can be challenging and techniques that work in other places might not work the same here. Our fluctuating temperatures, lack of humidity and alkaline soils create a unique environment.  These challenges can make traditional gardening more difficult but it also opens the door to using native plants to create our own gardening style and culture. There are many local writers, organizations and plant suppliers that are knowledgable about our local habitats and know which plants do best and how to grow them. Whether you want a natural prairie-style garden or something more formal looking visiting a demonstration gardens is helpful as it can help with design ideas and plant selections.

If you are interested in learning more about water wise gardening in Colorado, we have provided some additional resources that can help you out.
